Q & A:

  • Is this a “done deal”?

Not at all. This is the beginning of an exploration. Both churches are equal partners in this process, and either could decide to step away at any time.

  • How did this process start?

Christ Church approached Saint Paul’s late last year, wondering if we might explore this possibility together. While once a thriving parish, Christ Church has faced challenges in staffing, programming, and sustaining regular services. Their small but dedicated congregation has done extraordinary work, and they are creatively seeking new ways forward.

  • Will this benefit Saint Paul’s?

That’s exactly what we are discerning together. Church mergers are happening across Connecticut to strengthen communities by combining resources. The Episcopal Church grew in a time before cars, when parishes were just a few miles apart—Norwalk had four Episcopal churches as recently as the 1970s! Like many congregations, Saint Paul’s also faces long-term sustainability challenges. This conversation is about whether we might be stronger together than apart.

  • How can I help?

    • Join the conversation. Ask questions and share thoughts; this will help keep the dialogue open and informed.

     • Visit Christ Church. Small groups from Saint Paul’s attending their Sunday services regularly will help build relationships—whether or not we merge. If you’d like to go, contact Father Daniel.

     • Join a committee. If you serve on a Saint Paul’s committee, consider connecting with its counterpart at Christ Church.

  • Key Takeaways

    • This is an exploration, not a decision.

    • Our goal is to discern how best to be a vibrant Episcopal presence in Norwalk.

    • Relationships matter most. Connecting with Christ Church members is a great first step.

    • Questions, concerns, and ideas are welcome. Talk with Wardens Gail Bindley-Taylor, Ginny Balser, or Father Daniel.

Exploring Life Together

A conversation has begun with Christ Church, East Norwalk.

Christ Church was founded by Saint Paul’s 120 years ago, and recently members from both parishes met with the bishop to explore what a shared future might look like. The energy in the room was positive and curious, and we are now continuing the conversation through four committees that will focus on different aspects of church life: Property, Finance, Mission, and Canonical Requirements.

If you’d like to serve on a committee or contribute in another way, please reach out to Father Daniel.

Everyone’s voice matters in this process, and over the coming months, we will listen, discern, and explore where God is leading us. If you have questions, concerns, or suggestions, please connect with Wardens  Ginny Balser,  Gail Bindley-Taylor, or  Father Daniel.

God is always calling the Church into renewal, and this is an exciting opportunity for exploration and growth!

We walk this path together with openness and faith.
