Silent Movie Night with Live Organ!
October 27, 2023 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
St. Paul’s on the Green is hosting a Silent Movie Night on Friday, October 27th accompanied by live improvised organ! Featuring the church’s Skinner pipe organ, doors will open at 7:00 pm and the show will begin at 7:30 pm. All proceeds will go to benefit the church’s organ in support of its maintenance and continued longevity as one of southern Connecticut’s finest instruments.
What movie is playing? “The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari “…is a 1920 German silent horror film, directed by Robert Wiene and written by Hans Janowitz and Carl Mayer. Considered the
quintessential work of German Expressionist cinema, it tells the story of an insane hypnotist (Werner Krauss) who uses a somnambulist (Conrad Veidt) to commit murders. The film features a dark and twisted visual style, with sharp-pointed forms, oblique and curving lines, structures and landscapes that lean and twist in unusual angles, and shadows and streaks of light painted directly onto the sets.” (Wikipedia).
This historic film is sure to get you ready for Halloween! Returning recitalist, Jacqueline Nappi, will improvise on the organ to accompany the film’s screening in the sanctuary.
