Mid-Day Music: A Tale of Three Europes
April 10, 2019 @ 12:05 pm - 1:00 pm

This program opens with the violent and haunting sound world of Janacek’s Moravia and closes with the jaunty brilliance and energy of Ravel’s jazz-inspired violin sonata. Both are expressions, in their own ways, of the anxieties of war-torn Europe in the early 20th century. Beethoven’s “Spring” Sonata is a breath of fresh air that interpolates the two– a reminder of the persistence of simple beauty and purity.
