7:00 PM: Race & Social Justice

This Wednesday at 7:00 pm, the Race and Social Justice group will discuss Chapter 9  and the afterword of Jeanne Theoharis’ book A More Beautiful and Terrible History: The Uses and Misuses of Civil Rights History, which highlights the real, more complex story of the Civil Rights Movement. How do our sanitized, idealized narratives obscure how difficult and radical the Civil Rights Movement really was? What does the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s have to say about the ongoing racial, social, and economic struggles now, fifty years later?
