Christian Formation for Children

“Whoever embraces one of these children as I do, embraces me, and far more than me – God who sent me.” Mark 9:37

It is our intention to welcome all children into our parish life as fully as possible. This means that we seek to offer children their rightful place in worship with significant roles and to provide a safe place where children not only learn about the faith, but more importantly, get to experience the presence of God – through story, prayer and relationship.

“New Beginnings,” our expanded Sunday service schedule means an expansion of our Christian Education Program too!   Here is what we have to offer you and your children:

Children’s Worship

This is a time during both the 9:00 and 11:00 services for children (4-7) to gather with one of our clergy in the Guild Room to participate in their own Liturgy of the Word.  The kids begin worship in the church with their family, departing to special space after the reading of the Gospel.  They return to their families at the Peace in time for Communion.  Older Children (8+ – teens) are encouraged to take part actively in worship:  singing in the choir, serving at the altar, as ushers, or in other ministries.  See our Welcoming Children – Tips page or  Contact Mother Cindy Stravers for more information or phone her at 203 847 2806 x16.

Sunday School

Classes for children (aged 3 – 11) takes place from 10:05 to 10:45 am each week during the program year.  Younger children participate in Godly Play, a Montessori-based curriculum, while the older children are engaged in traveling  A Joyful Path. Classes take place in the Warner Center.

Not Sunday, Not School!

This is a program designed especially for (but not limited to!) our choristers.  Because they are often busy rehearsing Sunday morning, we offer a time of formation for them during the week.  We meet on Tuesdays at 5:00 pm to learn more about our faith.
