Doing Lent Differently

50¢ A MEAL

This Lent, we have an opportunity to make a discipline of sharing some of our resources to help hungry kids in Haiti. St. Sacrament Church in Fonds Parisien, one of the poorest areas of Port au Prince, includes a school of 150 students who arrive hungry every day and go back home hungry.

Their new priest, Reverend Frederic Menelas, attended seminary with Mother Cindy and has asked for our help in feeding the students. He would like to be able to provide one meal a day.

It costs $75 a day to feed 150 students, that’s 50¢ a meal.

Are you ready to do Lent differently by making a discipline of sharing some of your resources to help feed these kids? There are several ways that you can help out: you can collect 50¢ in lunch bags provided by Mother Cindy, for every person around the table every time you have a meal, you can write a check to the church with “Doing Lent Differently” in the memo, or you can use our PayPal portal by following the link below.

We’ll collect the money on Easter and see how many meals we can provide for these kids!

March 18: Sometimes You Have to Push the Envelope
The road to women’s ordination; other controversial action we’ve taken; and some of the more colorful figures in the Episcopal Church.

March 25: Don’t Check your Mind at the Door
Being a thinking Church means wrestling differently with critical / ethical decisions: gray isn’t black and white! And what ultimately unites us is … something else.

Come and join us as we refresh our hearts and minds—with images, poetry, and really good Anglican theology. Along the way we will also explore the value of an open Eucharistic table.

Discernment Workshop: March 31 10-2pm

Are you interested in discerning where God is at work in your life and where God is inviting you to exercise your ministry? Nicholas, and see how discernment might be useful in your life.

SPECIAL EVENTS IN LENT

Anglican Prayer Beads: Feb. 26 – 3:00 PM

Join us for a special workshop sponsored by Standing Stones! Prayer Beads are a uniquely Anglican twist on prayer ropes or Roman Catholic Rosaries and a wonderful tool for focusing your prayer life. Come learn more about the history of prayer beads, how to use them, and then make a set of your very own! Kits cost $10 – $15 dollars.  Reserve a spot in advance by contacting Fr. Adam, to ensure we have enough kits for everyone.

Pysanky Egg Workshop: March 3 – 9:00 AM

Back by popular demand, this is your opportunity to learn about the ancient Ukranian art of Pysanky Egg decorating and to make your very own egg. Like writing an icon, creating these unique eggs is a form of prayer and a traditional Lenten activity. Kits cost $25, please reserve a spot in advance by contacting Fr. Adam. This is an activity for adults and children 13 and older.

St. Joseph’s Table: March 19 – 6:00 PM

St. Joseph, the spouse of the Virgin Mary, is honored on March 19. Just as the Irish celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, it is a tradition for many cultures to celebrate St. Joseph’s Day and, for those of Italian descent, to do this with a festive meal and a St. Joseph’s Table laden with foods. As a way of honoring this Saint and of bringing us together for a social time in Lent, we will celebrate St. Joseph’s Day on Monday, March 19, with a meal beginning at 6 pm.
