Kate Parker-Burgard – Stewardship

Don and I both grew up in the church. The church is the way that we orient ourselves to a community and it has always been our primary philanthropic focus when we consider our time, talent, and treasure. 

When we moved to Norwalk a few years ago we had a couple of goals in mind when we were looking for a church: we wanted a worship experience that included rich liturgy and ritual, and we wanted a community that was warm and inclusive.

It would be hard to imagine a church that better aligns with those goals than St. Paul’s on the Green. We have felt warmly embraced by the congregation, uplifted by the worship experience, gently nudged toward ways to be involved, and made to feel like we matter. We are grateful to be part of a community that seeks to live out Christ’s mission in such a generous and bold way. 

There is a short poem by Edwin Markham that makes me think of St. Paul’s, and specifically this year’s stewardship theme:

He drew a circle that shut me out—

Rebel, heretic, a thing to flout. 

But Love and I had the wit to win, 

We drew a circle and let him in. 

Everyone wants to feel connected and there’s always room for more people —just make the circle wider. That’s St. Paul’s.  Belong, Be Loved, Be Generous.
